Our classes are two hours starting with 30 minutes of expert instruction, learning all the tips and tricks to create amazing pottery. Then, unleash your creativity with hands-on work time to sculpt, throw, and paint to your heart's content. No matter your skill level, our classes are open to all, so come on in and join the fun!

1.) Choose from a Variety of Unpainted Pottery (Bisque) Options. Explore our extensive selection to find the perfect piece for your creativity.

2.) Select Your Colors. Pick your preferred hues and bring your vision to life with our wide variety of Mayco Stroke n’ Coats.

3.) Paint Your Way! Let your imagination run wild as you create your unique design. We provide stamps, stencils, idea books, and samples for inspiration.

4.) Leave the Finishing Touches to Us. We'll glaze and fire your artwork in our kiln with expert care.

In just 14 days, your masterpiece will be ready for pickup.

PAINT YOUR OWN

There are no required classes for paint your own pottery, you are welcome to come in whenever or reserve a spot! Below is a step by step breakdown of what to expect when you come in to paint your own pottery.

Requirements for

DPS memberships

At DPS, all levels of potters are welcome! Whether you're a seasoned pro or a beginner exploring ceramics as a hobby, our studio is the perfect space for you to create. Join us and fulfill the requirements to enjoy independent studio access beyond our classes. Let your pottery journey begin with us!

  • To familiarize yourself with our studio and equipment, it's important to complete the required pottery courses. This includes 2 handbuilding classes, 1 wheel throwing class, and 1 glazing class. Gain the skills and knowledge you need to confidently create in our pottery studio.

  • After completing the required classes, take our orientation to progress towards obtaining a day pass or membership. Learn proper equipment usage, studio care, and maintenance to create a harmonious environment for all potters.

  • Your safety is our priority. Once you have completed the required classes, we kindly ask you to sign a waiver indicating your understanding of the classes and equipment usage. This ensures a safe pottery experience for everyone. Failure to comply with safety standards may result in fines and the loss of access to day passes or memberships. Let's create in a secure environment together!

Reoccurring Pottery Classes

The Following 4 classes are the essential classes for beginners to be eligible for a day pass or membership for our Studio Space. If you have pottery experience, you can skip the classes and go straight to the application.

slab building techniques $55

Duration: 2 hours

Age Recommendation: Ages 13 and older, Ages 8-12 with parent supervision

Techniques: Basics of slab building

Project: Create a personalized piece using 2 pounds of clay. You will learn how to roll out clay and how to create items like mugs, bowls, or whatever you design out of a flat piece of clay.

Guidance: Apply slab techniques to shape your unique creation

Glazes: Participants get to choose one of six glaze options for their creations. The studio's staff will handle the glazing process, and after 5 weeks, your finished pieces will be ready for pickup. If participants would like to glaze their own pieces, they can sign up for a Stoneware Glazing Class that is at least 4 weeks after their wheel throwing class

Ideal for beginners and a stepping stone for those eyeing our studio day passes or memberships.

pinch pot and coiling technique $55

Duration: 2 hours

Age Recommendation: Ages 13 and older, Ages 8-12 with parent supervision

Techniques: Basics of pinch pots and coil building

Project: With 2 pounds of clay, you'll craft a personalized piece using the pinch pot and coiling techniques learned during the session.

Guidance: Apply pinch pot and coiling techniques to shape your unique creation

Glazes: Participants get to choose one of six glaze options for their creations. The studio's staff will handle the glazing process, and after 5 weeks, your finished pieces will be ready for pickup. If participants would like to glaze their own pieces, they can sign up for a Stoneware Glazing Class that is at least 4 weeks after their wheel throwing class

wheel throwing $75

Duration: 2 hours

Age Recommendation: Ages 15 and older

Projects: Participants can create up to 3 items during the class.

Focus: Basics of wheel throwing, with a possibility of learning how to clean pieces on the wheel if time allows.

Cleaning and Finishing Your Pieces: While there might be an opportunity to learn how to clean your pieces on the wheel, the studio's staff will do the final touches to your pieces if time runs short.

Glazes: Participants get to choose one of six glaze options for their creations. The studio's staff will handle the glazing process, and after 5 weeks, your finished pieces will be ready for pickup. If participants would like to glaze their own pieces, they can sign up for a Stoneware Glazing Class that is at least 4 weeks after their wheel throwing class

Stoneware Glazing $25*

Duration: Up to 2 hours

Age Recommendation: Ages 13 and older, Ages 8-12 with parent supervision.

Techniques: Basics of stoneware glazing

Project: Brush stoneware glazes onto bisque-fired pieces. If you are glazing a pre-made stoneware bisque item, you will pay for both the bisque and the $25 for the class.

Guidance: Use painting and glaze layering techniques to add unique finishes to stoneware bisque.

Stoneware Bisque: Participants choose one of our stoneware bisque pieces to purchase and glaze. The cost of stoneware items ranges between $25 and $75

Hand-built or Wheel Thrown Items: If attendees have already created an item at our hand-building or wheel throwing classes, they may glaze those pieces instead of purchasing a stoneware bisque item.
